Quantity

Long-handled bamboo matcha whisk with 32 sturdy prongs, about 15cm tall and 4cm across. It suits people who make thick (koicha) matcha in a small bowl, where a longer handle keeps your hand clear while you knead slowly. It comes with a short bamboo collar that doubles as a stand.

Delivery

Dispatched from our supplier warehouse · delivery to Great Britain typically 7-14 working days (up to 30 days in rare cases). Free UK delivery on orders over £35 (otherwise £3.95).

The bamboo stand

The collar sits on the handle when the whisk arrives. It is a short piece of the same dark bamboo with angled ends and a pale round spot on one side. Slide it off, lay it down with the pale spot facing up and rest the handle on that spot, so the prongs stay lifted off the table between bowls. For drying after rinsing, stand the whisk prongs-down on a holder instead.

Prongs

32 thick prongs knead a thick paste rather than whipping a foam. For thin (usucha) matcha and lattes, choose an 80 or 100 prong whisk instead.

Material

Solid dark bamboo. No plastic, no glue. Approx. 15cm tall.

How to use

Soften the prongs in warm water for 30 seconds. Sift 3-4g of matcha into a small bowl, add about 30ml of water at 80°C and knead slowly until glossy.

Care

Rinse in warm water only, no soap. Shake off and let it air-dry on a whisk holder so the prongs keep their shape. Never leave a bamboo whisk soaking or in a dishwasher.

When to replace

With daily use a bamboo whisk lasts about 2-3 months; at 2-3 times a week, around 6 months. When prongs start to split or the foam gets coarse, it is time for a fresh one. See whisks.
