Collection: Bamboo Matcha Whisks (Chasen)

Solid bamboo, hand-finished, in the traditional construction – every prong count at £8.99. Every whisk is made from solid bamboo, with no plastic parts and no composite handles. Whichever you choose, it will whip matcha and 70-80°C water into a fine foam that no electric frother matches.

Which prong count?

Prongs Best for Character
64 Thick matcha (koicha) The sturdiest tines; kneads a thick paste without clogging
70 Everyday use Enough flex for a smooth foam, sturdy enough for daily whisking
80 Everyday thin matcha and lattes Quick to whisk and easy to rinse
100 Thin matcha (usucha) and lattes The finest, fastest foam – the one we recommend for most people
120 Maximum foam The most and finest tines; light touch required, silkiest result

Not sure? Take the 100-prong. More, finer tines mean more foam in fewer seconds, and every count costs the same. The full reasoning is in 80 vs 100 prongs explained.

What to look for in a matcha whisk

  • Solid bamboo, one piece. The prongs and handle should be carved from the same stem, not glued or moulded. Ours are.
  • A curled inner core. The inner tines curl into a tight spiral at the centre – that is what shears clumps against the bowl while the outer tines fold in air.
  • The right prong count for your drink – the table above. More prongs = finer foam; fewer prongs = sturdier for thick matcha.
  • An honest price. A bamboo whisk is a consumable – expect 2-3 months of daily use, around 6 months at 2-3× a week. Ours are all £8.99, so replacing one on schedule stays affordable, and a spare is easy to keep in the cupboard.

New whisk? Soak it in warm water for a minute before first use and never press it into the base of the bowl. After rinsing, stand the whisk on its handle until it is completely dry, then rest it on the holder to keep the prongs in shape – the whole routine is in our whisk care guide, and the technique is in how to make matcha at home.

A whisk on its own is under our £35 free-delivery threshold (delivery £3.95). Add a bowl or a second whisk, or choose a starter set, and delivery is free.
